Hello there.
My name is Scotty Cummings. I am a 32 yr old corporate dropout, “throwing” my life away as a ceramicist and artist in Los Angeles, CA. I started my ceramic journey in high school (s/o to Mr. Swineheart) but fell away as life got busy, like it does. I have been around the arts all of my life, drawing and painting, with a mother who nurtured creativity in our household. I ended up getting into graphic design and moving throughout the advertising industry as a Sr. Project Manager and Producer for 10 yrs. This past year I found myself drawn back to playing with mud and became infatuated with clay. I enjoy both wheel throwing and handbuilding with quite an eclectic range of styles - from cartoony creatures to whimsical vases. After a decade staring at computer screens, it is nice to do something tactile with my hands as a creative outlet, play, and embrace my inner child.
I was raised in Phoenix, Az and I have lived all up and down the west coast the past several years. I am now located in Santa Monica, CA. Moving to a new place was the perfect opportunity to join a studio to foster community and occupy my time. I was blessed to find the amazing community at Still Life Studios and meet some really wonderful people whom I now call friends. I have a beautiful life partner, Becca, and dog, Herschel, they are my best buddies. When I am not in the studio, I usually am walking around town with a 35mm camera, digging through crates at a local record store, or on the mountain snowboarding during the winter months.
I started Scum Studios as a place to share and showcase my creations and document my journey. Thanks for being here.
