Hello there.

My name is Scotty Cummings. I am a 32-year-old old corporate dropout “throwing” my life away as a ceramicist and artist in Los Angeles, CA. I started my ceramics journey in high school (shout out to Mr. Swineheart) but took a step back as life got busy. I've been around the arts all of my life, like drawing and painting, with a mother who nurtured creativity in our household. I got into graphic design and moved throughout the advertising industry as a producer for 10 years. Since 2024, I found myself drawn back to playing with mud and became infatuated with clay. I enjoy both wheel throwing and handbuilding with quite an eclectic range of styles-from cartoony creatures to whimsical vases. After a decade of staring at computer screens, it's nice to do something tactile with my hands as a creative outlet, embrace my inner child, and play.

I was raised in Phoenix, AZ and have lived all up and down the West Coast the past several years. I'm now located in Santa Monica, CA. Moving to a new place was the perfect opportunity to join a ceramics studio to foster community, and occupy my time. I was blessed to find the amazing collective at Still Life Studios and meet some really wonderful people I now call friends. I have a beautiful life partner, Becca, and dog, Herschel, they are my best buddies. When I'm not in the studio, you can catch me walking around town with a 35mm camera, digging through crates at a local record store, or on the mountain snowboarding during the winter months.

I started Scum Studios as a place to share and showcase my creations and document my journey. Thanks for being here.
